She was initially inspired by shadows reflected on grass. A few months later she came up with a technique which did not render the chosen object on canvas as a flat image. More like the image has been transformed to its own reproduction with the canvas taking an interpretation by the artist. This is especially effective when dealing with living objects as well as items that have a shelf life like fruits and people. Alexa Meade's painting style, that is extremely ephemeral its nature, can be seen. The only thing of Alexa's art that survives is the photograph. Both the painting and photographic techniques are so tightly coordinated and result in nothing but a two-dimensional flat space that achieves trompe l'oeil. The third dimension can only be seen within certain places that are close to the eyes or in hair. Meade occasionally integrates painted models into the environment around them. This allows them to interact with this world she has created. The distinctions between performance photography, installation and painting is thus broken.
