Having been first inspired by the shadows of trees she spotted in the grass, she did a lot of exploring a process that did not convey the selected subject as a 2-dimensional representation on canvas. Instead, the object is transformed into a re-creation of itself and the canvas becomes the carrier of it's personal interpretation by painting, particularly when the subject is live or perishable objects, such as people or fruits. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting which is very ephemeral in its nature, can be seen. The only piece from her work that is preserved is the photo. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved using the two processes of painting and photographing. It creates two-dimensional flattened picture. Meade occasionally integrates painted models into the environment around them. It allows them to be part of the world she has created. The distinctions between performance photography, and installation can be dissolved.
