Being initially drawn by the shadows of trees she spotted on the grass, she spent months exploring a process that didn't present the chosen subject as a 2-dimensional representation on canvas. Instead, the object is transformed into a re-creation of itself and the canvas transforms into the medium for it's own painterly interpretation, especially in the case of alive or perishable like people or fruits. The transient nature of her painterly style is obvious and the only thing that remains in Alexa Meade's art is a photographic image. Trompe l'oeil is achieved through the combination of two methods of photography and painting. This creates two-dimensional flattened image. Meade will sometimes integrate her painted model into the surrounding three-dimensional environment that allows them to interact within the context of their own. Thereby repealing the boundaries between painting, photography, installation and performance.
